Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP)

Entry-level support services to help older Australians live independently and safely at home.

Update:

Carer’s Network are currently at capacity and will not be taking on CHSP clients at this stage. However, we will continue providing services to those already receiving CHSP services.

About CHSP

The CHSP is usually the first step for older Australians to getting some help at home. If you are eligible, you’re expected to contribute to the cost of your care if you can afford to. The cost depends on the type of support required and the provider.

Eligibility for this program is based on your support needs and age. You can check your eligibility and apply via My Aged Care:

CHSP Frequently Asked Questions

How do I apply for the Commonwealth Home Support Program?

You have a few options. You can either call My Aged Care on to talk about your needs and see if you are eligible, or you can apply online.

If you are eligible, you’ll be referred for an assessment in your home. The assessor will contact you within two to six weeks to arrange your assessment.

What happens in an assessment?

The assessor will visit you at home to talk with you about your situation, health, lifestyle, and how you’re going with completing daily tasks around the home. This will help them to recommend the right services for your needs.

You can also have a family member or friend present during your assessment.

How long does it take to find out if I'm eligible for services?

For Commonwealth Home Support Programme services, you will usually find out if you’re eligible at your assessment.

Who decides which services I receive?

The in-home care services that may be funded by the CHSP will be determined by your My Aged Care assessment.
