At Carer’s Network, we believe that everyone deserves to feel safe, supported and well, especially in the place they call home.

We know that health and wellbeing are deeply personal and that receiving care at home is more than just clinical tasks. It’s about trust, comfort and connection. It’s about feeling truly understood and knowing that your health goals are listened to, respected and supported in a way that works for you.

Whether you’re recovering from illness, managing a long-term condition or simply need an extra helping hand to stay well, our in-home nurse is here to help. Working alongside your care team, we provide in-home aged care nursing services that fit naturally into your day-to-day life and help maintain your safety.

We recently sat down with Alabama, our registered in-home nurse, to learn more about her background, what she does day to day and how she supports older Australians to stay healthy, safe and independent at home. Here’s what she had to share.

Can you tell us a bit about your background and what led you to in-home care?

I’m a registered nurse with a solid background in emergency medicine. Each day, I am assessing and planning patient care in the hospital, and I’m excited to bring my knowledge and care to the community. Having previously worked as a support worker with Carer’s Network, I truly understand the needs of patients, both in the hospital and at home. My passion lies in helping older Australians maintain their independence, live well, and stay safe in their own homes for as long as possible.

How do you support clients day to day?

My role involves keeping an eye on your physical and mental health and adjusting care as your needs change. I’ll work closely with your case manager to develop personalised care plans, and I’m here to connect with GPs and allied health professionals to support you, especially after a hospital discharge or when new health concerns arise. I also provide education for clients and caregivers on things like wound care, medication management, and fall prevention.

Why is it helpful to have a nurse as part of the in-home care team?

Having me as your in-house nurse means quicker support, no waiting for external referrals, as I’m right here for you and your caregivers. You’ll benefit from more integrated care as I will be working directly with your care coordination team. Plus, it’s a cost-effective way to use your Home Care Package funds, and you’ll have the continuity of care from someone you know and trust.

What kinds of health questions do clients usually ask you?

• “Do I need to see my GP for this?”
• “How do I manage this new medication?”
• “Am I eligible for physio or other allied health?”
• “What should I do about a recent fall or this skin issue?”

Any final thoughts for clients and their loved ones?

I’m here to support you and your family every step of the way. Whether you have concerns or just want to chat, don’t hesitate to reach out. Talk to your care coordinator today to see how I can assist you!
