Registered and Certified NDIS Providers, What is the Difference and Why Does it Matter?
At Carer’s Network, we are proud to be both a Registered and Certified NDIS Provider, delivering in-home services and supports to individuals living with physical or psychosocial disability. But what exactly does it mean to be both registered and certified—and why should it matter to you?
When considering an NDIS provider, it’s important to understand the differences between:
- Unregistered Providers
- Registered Providers
- Certified Providers
The terminology can feel overwhelming, but understanding these distinctions ensures you find the right NDIS service provider to meet your needs. Let’s start by exploring what it means to be a “registered” NDIS provider.
What it Means to be a Registered NDIS Provider
As a registered provider, Carer’s Network has been formally recognised by the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission for meeting essential requirements under the NDIS Practice Standards. This allows us to deliver:
– specialist behaviour support services
– supports or services to NDIS participants with NDIA-managed funding
– plan management services.
“Registration ensures we’re delivering safe, compliant, and effective in-home supports,” says Maria Nagy, Operations Manager at Carer’s Network. “It’s the foundation of trust and accountability for our clients and their families.”
Only participants who self-manage or plan-manage their NDIS funding can choose to get supports and services from unregistered providers.
What it Means to be a Registered and Certified NDIS Provider
Certification goes a step beyond NDIS registration. Certified NDIS providers have undergone a more rigorous audit process based on their level of risk and complexity of services offered.
NDIS certification requires a full audit by an independent NDIS-approved auditor, rather than the verification audit needed for registration. Achieving certification involves undergoing a comprehensive audit process that evaluates critical areas such as governance, staffing, risk management, and operational processes.
Carer’s Network’s services have been independently certified to NDIS Practice Standards and Quality Indicators with the ‘5 Ticks’ StandardsMark™ from SAI Global.
Certified providers, like Carer’s Network, meet the higher tiers of compliance outlined in the NDIS Practice Standards. This is particularly important for services requiring significant expertise, such as clinical supports or behaviour support.
“Our certification reassures participants and their families that they’re receiving care from a provider that prioritises safety, accountability and excellence,” says Maria. By choosing a certified provider, NDIS participants can trust that they are accessing services held to the most rigorous standards within the NDIS framework.
More About the ‘5 Ticks’ StandardsMark™ from SAI Global
The ‘5 Ticks’ StandardsMark™ on a product or management system is an independent assurance to the customer that the organisation has undergone a rigorous audit and testing program.
SAI Global is an auditing body approved by the NDIS Commission.
Only approved auditing bodies, called Approved Quality Auditors, can assess whether an NDIS provider complies with the NDIS Practice Standards.
